Bilbao Metropoli-30 and Intendencia de Montevideo [City Council of Montevideo] are jointly to organise the 8th edition of the City & Values Forum on October 8 with the theme of “A Culture of Work” as a driver and source of values for peaceful coexistence. The Forum likewise forms part of the activities scheduled by the Intendant’s Office within the agenda celebrating Montevideo being the Ibero-American Capital of Culture 2013.
The participants in the event will include Gabriel Otero, Mayor of Municipio A - Montevideo, and Santiago Pérez del Castillo, Director of BBVA Uruguay. It will be opened by Ana Olivera, Mayor of Montevideo, Sara Pagola, the Basque Government’s delegate for Argentina and the Mercosur region and Alfonso Martínez Cearra, General Manager of Bilbao Metropoli-30. At the closing ceremony the International Relations Officer of the Prefecture of Canoas (Brazil), Deise Martins, and on behalf of the Prefeito, will take over the job of host, since the 9th forum, scheduled for 2014, is to take place in the Brazilian city of Canoas.
The Forum is an initiative of the Association for the revitalisation of Metropolitan Bilbao “Bilbao Metropoli-30” and the city councils that host it. This forum is held annually on an itinerant basis in Latin American cities and is supported by the Basque Government through its delegations. The City and Values Forum is part of the co-operation and collaboration strategy between Euskadi and the Latin American countries to support and tighten the historic links between these regions and foster economic and business relations.
The main aims set by Bilbao Metropoli-30 when defining the dynamics of the “City and Values Forum” project have been to boost consolidation of the successful values strategy for the urban, economic and social development of the Bilbao metropolitan area in the host cities and to press on and implement the work carried out in the different cities to foster the exchange of experiences and knowledge.
City and Values Forums have been held in 2006 in Bilbao, 2007 in Valparaíso (Chile), in 2008 in Cuernavaca (Mexico), in 2009 in Bogota (Colombia), in 2010 in Miraflores (Lima, Peru), in 2011 in Maipú (Chile) and in 2012 in Merida (Yucatan, Mexico).Objective of the City and Values Forum
